This cheeseburger macaroni pasta is just like the store-bought Hamburger Helper, except a lot tastier and better for you!

Hamburger Helper was frequently on the dinner menu when I was growing up, and I always looked forward to Hamburger Helper nights. Once I started growing interest in making more and more recipes from scratch, I was curious about what it would take to make Hamburger Helper from scratch. I can never go back to eating this meal out of a box again, because this version is soooo much better! It tastes real - you can taste REAL melted cheese on the noodles. It also cooks just as quickly as the box does. This recipe is perfect for getting a quick dinner on the table that both the parents and kids will enjoy!

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef

  • 2 teaspoons onion powder

  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder

  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley

  • 1 teaspoon paprika

  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper

  • salt and pepper to taste

  • 1 1/2 cups milk

  • 1 1/2 cups beef broth

  • 1/2 cup water

  • 1 8 oz can tomato sauce

  • 1 lb uncooked elbow macaroni pasta

  • 2 cups grated sharp cheddar cheese

Instructions

  1. In a large pot or skillet (that has a lid to go with it), on medium-high heat, brown the ground beef. When beef is almost done, add all the seasonings.

  2. Add in milk, beef broth, water, and tomato sauce. Mix together. Then add the uncooked pasta.

  3. Bring mixture to a boil and then bring heat down to a simmer. Place the lid on the pot or skillet and cook until pasta is al dente, stirring occasionally.

  4. Remove from heat and add in the grated cheese. Stir until melted.

  5. Add your favorite toppings such as freshly grated parmesan, freshly chopped parsley, or whatever you prefer! Enjoy!
